In my opinion, the "talent deficit" excuse isn't valid when we lose by only 7 to Ole Miss, a score against Georgia, and a couple scores vs. A&M. Those are three of the better teams in the conference, and Auburn stayed close to them, albeit at home.

A better offensive game plan and better offensive players at Wide Receiver and QB likely turns at least 2 of those losses into wins.

The team this year is MUCH more talented than last season. It's just that coaching staff is high-key worse, and the QBs are worse.

Again, two ways to look at that. Anyone with reasonable expectations for this year expected similar to 1981. And your description makes it sound pretty similar. 🤷‍♂️

  2. Ultimately, both our home losses were games where we could have won. Whether you view that as reason for pessimism (coaching) or optimism (lack of talent--and therefore similar to CPD's first year) is up to you. 🤷‍♂️

We need to pump the brakes on this. It's possible Freeze works out well. But it's not close to true that he's some homerun hire and if he fails, no one else can succeed.

    What has Freeze ever accomplished?

He lost his last 4 games at Liberty. Typically, at programs like Auburn, you only hire coaches from a smaller program if they are killing it.

He got a lot of play from beating a bad Arkansas team. He had one great season at Liberty at 10-1. But he was 8-5 in the season before that and 8-5 and 8-4 in the next 2 seasons.

Ole Miss? That was 7 years ago and a lot has changed since then, especially how defenses defend his offense (anyone remember Gus?). Either way, he was 39-25 at Ole Miss (not counting the the sanctions that took about 30 of those wins away). Over 5 seasons, that averages out to 7.8 and 5.

I just don't believe we're a very attractive coaching job, for reasons entirely out of our control.

That being said: he'll get four years, so if it hypothetically doesn't work out by then, we would be off the hook from Gus and Haskins by then, and not that much left in his contract. Combine with Saban being four years closer to retirement (75), so maybe we would be in better position by then.

My only issue is that this has been a worse showing early on than Harsin or Gus. I know everybody is saying that HF is elsewhere building for next year but we are not building blocks for next year on the field. He is gonna have to sell recruits on a vision bc the on the field product is not it. I praised him in the off-season and still think he can be successful with how he builds programs but I am just numb by the ineptitude of what we are putting on the field

Harsin and Gus had vastly more talent.

Gainesville is the worst place on the planet.  I don’t understand how people get duped into living there.  It’s like if you said, “I want to live in Florida, but I only want the worst parts of Florida”. I’d point you to the swampiest armpit of hell, Gainesville.

    More hurricane resistant, for one.

Whatever we need to do to get Coleman to flip/commit needs to happen

I think at that point it becomes a massive opportunity cost. We might have to give up going after a transfer QB and some key other spots for what it would cost to beat A&M's offer.

Don't care how WSU performed. I still think Ward is better than anyone on our roster by far.

Missing my point. Need MSU very very very bad.

I'd like to think there will be an urgency in the TP this December with QB in a way there may not have been last year.
