It's useless to say fire Freeze. We've invested and will ride this out good or bad. I don't think Freeze is it. I don't think his recruiting is going to be as good as expected. He was an underwhelming hire that no other SEC program wanted. We approach every coaching search like "who wants to come here?" and then we hire someone no one wants...and we always get the same results.
Stop paying top money for average coaches. Stop thinking there's a secret neato offensive scheme that's going to tip the balance. We hired another Gus Malzahn. Why?
Gus and Freeze are teh absolute best we can get. Doesn't matter how much we have our house in order, it's just the truth unless UAT ever comes down.

It doesn’t feel like it right now. Based on all the information that’s out there it feels like he’ll be publicly Committed to somewhere besides Texas A&M before early signing day.
Did we blow our chance today? Ugh.

I remember CC trending Auburn way before his shocking commit to A&M but was there ever a Cam Coleman CB to AU from someone back then?
Yup. Literally the day before/of. So, I am cautiously optimistic here, but underline cautious.

On a side note of that game, Bowden is dressed like a Hogswart student.
It will be interesting if he stays next year since ULM is on the schedule.

I prefer Gator to Music City, but Citrus is my preference of all the bowls we might have a shot at.
Of course, that's purely because of perceived prestige of the bowl... plus the fact that we've not been to the Gator Bowl in half a century plays a part, too.Mine too but we're likely out of the running for Citrus. Likely taking Ole Miss.

Yeah…..in the 2 games against Auburn High this year, Cam had 500 yards receiving and 5 TD’s
Not saying Cam will be the same, just thinking about Auburn High, I remember when Jeremy Johnson ripped a defense led by Reuben and Rashaan to shreds.

Getting housed by WSU. They were 1-11 last year, so 4-8 *is* a solid improvement. But I stand by my previously mentioned reservations.

I always put the Citrus (Capital One) Bowl slightly ahead of the Outback Bowl but that doesn't matter. Gator Bowl would be cool, but the Music City Bowl probably wants Auburn more than anyone.
Citrus gets first pick after NY6, so yeah.

I'd prefer Jacksonville to Tampa. We are due a trip to the Gator.
Yeah, Tampa's going to want the Brian Kelly Bowl. So from purely a perspective on our bowl destination, the IB doesn't mean much. LOL

8-4 Auburn goes to......?
Outback (I refuse to call it "ReliaQuest") seems to be the unofficial highest tier in the "Group of Six." So 8-4 = win over UAT = all the momentum in the world = might pick us over LSU.

@ScotsAU Here's the full list:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/regrading-the-2017-18-college-football-coaching-carousel-from-jimbo-fisher-and-scott-frost-to-dan-mullen/Scott Frost is the most obvious. I know the cupboard he inherited at UCF was in retrospect well stocked but 0-12 to 13-0 in two years is going to look good any way you slice it.
Luke technically started in 2017, but was "interim" the whole year.
Ok, Jonathan Smith at Oregon State was the ONE big success from that cycle. And Chip Kelly is still at UCLA.

I thought this one was hilarious. A&M fans were so sure they found their guy.
It’s amazing how every hire from that cycle is now gone.

Clemson, Miami, Duke, Southern Cal, UCLA, Rutgers, West Virginia, Iowa State, and Maryland all have the same record as Auburn currently. 6-4. I think these are all among the likely opponents for Auburn in a bowl game -- unless Auburn gets lucky and upsets Bama, in which case, at 8-4 with a big signature win, Auburn would get bumped up to the next level.
The bowl needs to have an SEC tie-in and be looking at SEC teams with a mid-tier W-L record. . So that includes the Liberty Bowl, the Texas Bowl, the Music City Bowl, the Gasparilla Bowl, the Duke's Mayo Bowl, and the Birmingham Bowl.
Personally, I'd love to see Auburn play USCw or UCLA. This would be a major sell for recruiting! And the coaches would have no problem getting the team fired up for that one. I'm just not sure which bowl would host that game.
The Gasparilla Bowl and Birmingham Bowl usually end up with SEC teams that barely qualify. I think Auburn gets a better bowl than either of those.
I figure most likely -- Duke's Mayo vs Clemson, Duke or Miami (all ACC), or Music City vs Rutgers or Maryland (both Big 10), or Texas Bowl vs Iowa State or West Virginia (both Big 12).
No non-NY6 tie ins with the Pac this year, sadly. Obviously a moot point next year.

A lot of people, including some on this board were prematurely judging Saban as done. I’m just hoping Hugh can continue to build us back to sustained excellence. It’s been a minute.
FWIW, I think UW and Oregon would be better matchups for UGA than OSU or Michigan.
I would like to refer back to the grand debate of who the third opponent should be. I was told that we could handle Florida or LSU because Alabama was about to fall back to the Shula years. 🙄
(And yes, nine games will happen--by 2026 at latest, guaranteed).

Gotta wonder if Nashville had to choose between 7-5 Auburn or 7-5 Kentucky which way they’d go?
I’ll be in Charlotte for Christmas so I could do the Mayo Bowl too.
They got Kentucky last year soooo...

Beat the Bamzos and we can aim much higher than Memphis or Shreveport.
Assuming we can take care of NMSU, we'll end up in the "Pool of Six" regardless of how the IB goes.

He'd be scary there.
If they were smart, they'd look at Phil Longo. Tons of ties in state from his time at SHSU and a proven offense
I'd rather Lanning be at A&M than Saban's replacement.

Anything more would’ve likely been the most since the 56-3 Arkansas win in 16. Actually… they might’ve had a 49 somewhere in that 2017 game.
We always handle Arky’s defense in that blase stadium they play in, but this was the worst of the worstLike I said, firing Petrino has almost completely killed that program (with teh exception of 2021 and a few games in 2015).
