They just lost a 5* to Texas LOL.

I was surprised to see that CC is ahead of RW in every ranking.

And as I said in another thread, Dye came in when bahr was retiring, making it an even bigger shift in recruiting momentum.
If bahr had been young enough and healthy enough to continue an extra 10 years, I don’t believe Dye would have had the superb recruiting success he ended up with.
The same (or similar) effect can be predicted for the Freeze intro / Saban outro.
(Sorry to double post) but I'll believe Nicky is retiring when I see it. He strikes me as a Bobby Bowden/JoePa type (minus the well...you know).

It was food and diapers. Eric came begging to Dye telling him he had no $$$ to support his family. The entire thing was orchestrated by Eric's wife Twilitta and Donald Watkins, a big time Birmingham attorney at the time. He worked independently but was also involved the Birmingham city affairs. Twilitta had already tried to get $$ from someone else by recording their conversations, which she also did with Auburn coaches. Many people, myself included, think the entire thing was done to get back at Dye for moving the Iron Bowl from Birmingham.
Long story short, Auburn got hammered for trying to do good for a young family.
Jelks, Langham and Means provided a nice big helping of karma over the next decade at least.

Venables?
Went 6-7 last year. Lost to Kansas this year. Take away the win over Texas, and he really hasn’t performed that well, especially considering where Oklahoma was prior to his arrival.
Perhaps. Their entire roster *did* bolt when LR left though. So we shall see. Oh how satisfying it would be to show him how aligned we truly are on 9/28!
(In fairness, at the time he was pretty spot on.)

Trooper, not Luper. Trooper and Foster were almost like father and son in their relationship.
That's how I remembered it.
"You may think [recruit X] is a lock but just remember that a guy who got an Auburn tattoo signed with Bama!"

Didn't we mainly lose RF because we fired Troop and Lupe?

But I do have to point out that a lot of people did. When there was first talk about ousting Gus, Napier, Cristobal, Fickell, and Bill Clark we’re kinda the top floated names. The first three have severely underperformed, and Bill Clark outright left football.
Jury's still out on Fickell. It's clear that Miami is in a process with Cristobal. Venables is looking like a success.
But, just goes to show how difficult it is to predict if a coach will be a success.
And I'll freely admit it (and as everyone probably remembers), I thought BN would be a damn good coach.

If we win our bowl game eight will only be one more win next season and that would not make it great. That would make it solid at best.
Yeah, I decided to not really factor non-playoff bowl games into my expectations. Not that I don't care, it's more because. I can have a better gauge on progress earlier. 🤷♂️

Yeah 6 wins again would be considered a failure. 7 is fine so long as we keep killing it in recruiting, 8 would be gr8!

Not saying much but this is definitely our most favorable even year schedule since 2010.
(For some reason, I always preferred even years being more favorable, which obviously changed when A&M and Missouri joined. I liked having all our toughest games aside from UAT being on the opposite rotation.)

We have that tough stretch of Oklahoma/Georgia/Mizzou but aside from that this schedule is definitely not the worst.
Florida’s schedule would make me cry as a UF fan. Brutal.
Strickin is going to get fired for scheduling UCF and Miami alone. My goodness.

I'd say poor Billy, but feeling some schadenfreude. Him, BV and MC accepting other jobs a year after turning us down was one fo my very lowest moments as a fan.

Toss ups - Mizzou, Kentucky, Texas A&M
I'll predict we take one of those.
-
Earlier I mentioned TAMU and Kentucky as the biggest toss ups. Well, TAMU looks potentially more favorable than Kentucky now.

So many moving variables.
Will we have a good QB?
Will our young WRs contribute quickly or will we do a better job evaluating portal WRs who can contribute?
Will we have any SEC Level offensive tackles on our roster?
Will we have any SEC level DTs on our roster?
Will Hugh Freeze take over the offense or just take credit during weeks we aren't terrible?
Those are massive TBDs right now. I think 9 wins is our ceiling and that's being pretty generous. I think vegas sets or o/u at 7 wins. I feel like that is where we land. 7-5. Hopes of 8-4.
Auto losses to Bama & UGA. Probably going to lose at least one at Kentucky or at Mizzou or Oklahoma.
My stance has been a one (reg season) game improvement next year, MAYBE two. Take the three cupcakes (year 2 improvements and all), Vandy, Cal, Arky, and one of Kentucky or A&M. Sux that Missouri came out of nowhere.

Wade is a JR?

I’m just amazed they were able to be a powerhouse at all.

Not about us but super interesting...could this be the spark that finally brings the Corn People back to relevancy? You'd think Warren Buffett would give them a big advantage in the NIL era.

There is no way that UAT allows us to play Vandy the week before IB while they play @ Oklahoma. Which I get.

What a terrific class. I was just hoping for a top 15 finish and it a top 10 finish now looks likely.
What's weird is how we regularly did reach this mark under Gus...yet, this feels different. Anyone else feel the same way?
