  3. Auburn Football Prominent voice explains why he likes Auburn’s Bryan Harsin Updated: Aug. 25, 2021, 9:46 a.m. | Published: Aug. 25, 2021, 7:36 a.m. Auburn head football coach Bryan Harsin is entering his first season with the Tigers but is currently away from the team after testing positive for COVID-19. (AP Photo/Julie Bennett)AP 761 shares By Joseph Goodman | jgoodman@al.com Bryan Harsin is going to do really well at Auburn, a familiar voice said to me on Tuesday. In a recent column critical of Harsin, my doubts about Auburn’s new coach were loud and angry. Just wait, I was told. More than anything — except for maybe that he is very pro-vaccine — that’s what Lanett High School football coach Clifford Story wanted me to know. Fall camp might have taken an unfortunate turn with Auburn’s coach and defensive coordinator out with COVID-19, but, according to Story, “once they get everything in the direction they want it going, and [Harsin] gets his guys in there, they’re going to have a lot of success at Auburn.” We’ll see, but Story’s opinion of Harsin isn’t some take from an Auburn homer with a blog. His is the hope of an invested stakeholder who wants Harsin to succeed at Auburn, yes, but Story’s perspective comes from a place that’s built on sturdier stuff than blind trust. He doesn’t have a choice in the matter. It is his business to be a little more discerning when it comes to the character of coaches in college football, and their abilities to build winners. Story’s son, Caden, is committed to Auburn. Story wants what’s best for Auburn, and that includes a team that understands the importance of vaccination against COVID-19, but Harsin’s noted refusal to promote vaccination aside, Story likes what he sees. One of the most respected high school football coaches in the state, his words carry great weight, too, so his perspective should come as a relief for Auburn fans who have questioned the new coach in recent weeks. Still, make no mistake, this outbreak of COVID-19 at Auburn during fall camp threatens the success of the season. For parents of young people at Auburn, Story has a different message. “Caden isn’t going to be at Auburn for another year, but as a parent I’m going to make sure that, a year from now, he has the booster or whatever the medical recommendation is at that time to protect him,” Story said. “We’re going to do what we’re supposed to do as parents, and that’s make sure that Caden is vaccinated.” RELATED: LSU requiring proof of vaccination, negative test for football games GOODMAN: Failure of Bryan Harsin goes far beyond football field An elite prospect at defensive end, Caden could go pretty much anywhere next summer to play football. He loved former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, and viewed Malzahn as a “father figure,” according to Cliff Story. When Malzahn was fired, Caden’s recruitment was reopened and other programs swooped in. Harsin locked up Caden’s commitment, dad says, with a no nonsense attitude, and his detailed plan for the future of Auburn football. Well, what’s the plan? “It would take me way too long to go through it all,” Story said. “But [Harsin] broke it all down with a long powerpoint presentation. All coaches talk about their plan, but he broke it all down step by step so we could see it.” Harsin’s plan for Auburn is based on trust, building relationships and creating a family atmosphere, and he shows recruits and their families how those ideas are formed into practical, daily plans with detailed blueprints. And Auburn’s resources for helping Harsin make all that happen, Story notes, are second to none in the country. Dad Story knows all the tricks in the recruiting game, and emphasized that Harsin “says what he means, and means what he says. He is very straight-forward, and he can command a room.” “Everything he said he would do, he has done,” Story said. “He said he would make Auburn feel like a family, and he is doing it. The players really respond to him, and I like that he gets out on the field with them and practices. He has put together a great staff, guys who have bought into his vision. “He has proven himself to my family.” Families never agree on everything, and the Auburn family knows that better than anyone. It is fair to criticize the current mismanagement of Auburn’s fall camp, but Story believes that the whole picture of Harsin is one that Auburn fans should embrace. This past week, with Harsin refusing to promote vaccines and then testing positive himself, cast a shadow on the start of Auburn’s season. There is no getting around that. Does Story wish Auburn’s coach promoted vaccines? Yes, of course, and Story is “praying” for everyone at Auburn to get vaccinated for the health of themselves, their teammates and their families. GOODMAN: Super Teams vs. Super Seniors frames new season of college football GOODMAN: Suni Lee propels Auburn onto national stage But when it comes to football, Story says that Harsin and defensive coordinator Derek Mason set Auburn apart from other programs during recruiting. “[Mason] is a player’s coach, and full of energy,” Story said. “What I like about him, in addition to that, was when he was breaking down Caden’s film, [Mason] was telling him what he needed to work on and how he fits into what Auburn wants. “Caden is so athletic to be as big as he is (6-4, 250 pounds),” Story said. “He is one of those kids where he always trained to be a quarterback, and outgrew the position, but kept the ability.” For measured context on Harsin’s plan for Auburn through the lens of a parent of a future player, know that one of Story’s other sons, Kristian Story, is a sophomore defensive back for the Alabama Crimson Tide. For appreciation on Cliff Story’s understanding of what it takes to succeed as a coach, realize that he is one of the best high school football coaches in the country. Is that a biased opinion? Yeah, probably so, but there is no one — literally no one — who can do more with less than Cliff Story at Lanett High School in Chambers County, Alabama. Name another coach anywhere whose football workout facility is currently a charred heap of wreckage from a catastrophic fire, but, despite that major setback, started this high school football season on Friday with a 47-point victory. “We kinda got out on them early,” Story said. His burned down football facility, Story is hoping, will be rebuilt by next year. They still could use some help to build it back better than before, he says. Story is pretty good at building things. When it comes to respect, no one commands more of it than the guy who has built Lanett High School football and its athletics department into an example of what small-town schools can accomplish with love and dedication. That’s the kind of spirit, built by unflappable people, that makes Auburn great. Guy he almost apologized lol. he did brown nose the fans to get us off his butt...........grins
  4. and so it begins................
  5. someone catches bird with his pants down and discovers a gus tattoo on the calf of his leg. grins..............sorry bird but i cannot get anything out of golf.
  6. they should run the fiddy drill.at one end of the end zone we have one porta pottie right? on the opposite end we have the whole team who have feasted the night before and have to do their morning business. now five feet in front of those we have one roll of tp. when the whistle blows we have the whole team running like hell for the toilet paper roll. the only cat that can use said porta pottie would be the one coming up with the roll of tp. he also gets awarded the toilet seat of victory for the day. the rest have to take the shower of shame. and if a player is actually fast enough to get said tp without being touched? he gets an extra thirty to read the morning papers while the others are running stadium steps. and before you guys moan remember it is funnier if you are stoned.
  7. i enjoyed that video more than most i have seen. thanks for posting.
  8. gus pulled a kid from nowhere and almost won a natty with him. so gus does know a little about qb's.
  9. i agree. bo is a winner and i will pull for him like everyone else. we killed finley last year with a subpar d so it is almost bo or nothing unless the game slows down for dd.
  10. well sources in the know just said bo is not as good as the staff had hoped. it is selfish but at my age i would hope for a couple more golden years of auburn foorball but i might not get that.
  11. well now gus did refuse to let joey play when his folks made a long drive up to see it and gus did not keep his word. but he does look better knowing maybe joey was not that good? i never hated gus and still do not but i was upset about gatewoods folks.
  12. how dare you sir! we would never bash anyone or anything on the Fam! lol
  13. He wants to finish you and embarrass you in front of everyone you know.<<<this all day long!!!! How Micah Riley-Ducker can help the Tigers Zac Blackerby 2-3 minutes The Auburn Tigers are getting a tight end that can do it all in Micah Riley-Ducker. The tight end announced that he would be lending his services to Bryan Harsin’s program Wednesday night. The Bellevue, Nebraska native is listed as a three-star player by some recruiting sites and a four-star by others. Regardless of his ranking, the belief is he will be able to help out the Auburn Tigers. It was an impressive move by Harsin’s staff to be able to go out and get the 6-foot-six, 235-pound prospect from the middle of the country, far away from Auburn. Harsin gets his first high school player to commit to the Tigers that resides outside of the southeast. Jake Crain, the host of The JBoy Show, joined the Locked On Auburn podcast to discuss what type of player that the Auburn fanbase can expect. “A lot of people thought Iowa early,” Crain said on the show. “This is such a great job by Bryan Harsin and his staff. Look, I coached at Iowa Western Junior College for two years and was out in Council Bluffs and was actually really close to Bellevue, Nebraska and these kids are really tough. He is a four-star kid. You look at his frame, he’s got room to grow. Jeff Pittman is going to put some weight on him. The thing about this kid, and there’s a few things that stand out. Number one is that he’s a willing blocker and in today’s football world, outside of offensive linemen, to find a tight end that not only wants to block but if you turn on his tape, he wants to finish you and embarrass you in front of everyone you know. That’s how you win football games. He can also play inline which means he can go on the end of the line of scrimmage and put his hand down, get in the hip, and can probably help you with running split zone a little bit” Riley Ducker is the fifth member of the 2022 Auburn signing class. He joins quarterback Holden Geriner, defensive back Jarrell Stinson, linebacker Powell Gordon, and kicker Alex McPherson. 16. Auburn Football Bryan Harsin, the Auburn coach Bandit from Boise, strikes again Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin speaks to the media outside Cafe Florentine where AMBUSH was held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. (Photo by Giana Han) Bryan Harsin is a thief from Idaho. Let me ask everyone a serious question: does this cowboy — this Bandit from Boise — have no moral code? Is nothing sacred anymore? Can’t anything be done to stop this man of mischief? Nope. And it’s glorious. And I’m really starting to like this guy. Everyone loves a good black-hat villain in the SEC, and Harsin is wearing it today. On Thursday, Auburn’s football coach did something many longtime fans of the league would have once considered unthinkable. Harsin straight up stole a former five-star recruit off the roster of the rival Georgia Bulldogs. I’m guessing Pat Dye would approve. Harsin walked into the Bulldogs’ receiver room this week, and left with a former freshman All-American. Demetris Robertson wore black and red in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry last season, but this fall he’ll be dressed out in burnt orange and navy blue. He’s the third transfer this offseason to go from an SEC school to Auburn, but the others were from Vanderbilt and LSU. It feels different when it’s a chief rival, right? Not dirtier, because it’s all within the rules, but maybe somehow more intimate. This isn’t just business. This is personal. This is the new world of college football. Does it matter which sideline of the Iron Bowl you’re standing on as long as you’re playing in the game? Maybe not in a few years. Robertson was once the top-rated high school receiver in the country and a freshman All-American for Cal. Now he’s just looking for a way to improve his NFL draft stock before his collegiate eligibility expires, and the best option, apparently, was the nuclear one. Push the red button to see Scott Cochran’s head explode. Over the past week or so, Auburn’s poker-faced Harsin has finally started to show some of his playing cards, and there’s some substance to go along with all the coach-speak. Still not sure what to expect from the Tigers under athletic director Allen Greene’s big bold replacement for Gus Malzahn, but at least now we know Harsin has the required skills needed to steal from an SEC neighbor. Hey, anything to help Bo Nix sell sweet tea. They’re all thieves, folks, so let’s not kid ourselves. The game now is just about knowing what to take. Georgia recently added a former five-star receiver from LSU, Arik Gilbert of Marietta, Georgia. Was Robertson addition by subtraction for Georgia, or will losing him to Auburn come back to haunt Smart and his staff like quarterback Justin Fields? Yeah, Smart will never live that one down. It’s not just about recruiting high school players anymore. From now on, coaches also will be measured and judged by their ability to steal transfers and retain talent. All things considered, Harsin is having a good summer after being handicapped by the NCAA’s extended recruiting moratorium due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to Robertson’s commitment, Harsin also landed a huge special teams recruit this week, class of 2022 kicker Alex McPherson. Again, anything to see Scott Cochran’s face catch on fire. Metaphorically, of course. Maybe Auburn isn’t going to be so mediocre this season after all. Auburn fans seem willing to give greenhorn Harsin a pass for the 2021 season — I don’t believe it — but it appears like he has different plans. Don’t chisel Alabama’s name on the SEC West division trophy just yet. Harsin might steal that, too, if Alabama coach Nick Saban isn’t careful. Oh, and lock up that diamond-crusted roster down in Tuscaloosa while y’all are at it. There’s a burglar on the prowl this summer. Auburn needed a veteran receiver for Nix going into fall camp, so Harsin looked around and took one from Georgia like he was pulling a gold chain right off Kirby Smart’s neck. How is Auburn possibly supposed to compete with Georgia in 2021? Raid the ‘Dawg house, of course. Robertson, while extremely gifted, apparently didn’t impress Smart enough in practice over the last three years to earn more chances on the field. The Savannah, Georgia, native then allegedly did something regrettable in February when he allegedly removed a parking boot from his car on campus. Who among us, right? Athens, Georgia, and its silly parking rules … Has anyone ever paid for a single parking ticket in the entire history of Alabama? The answer is heck no. Park wherever you want in Auburn, Demetris. In fact, the parking authority might even throw in an endorsement deal if you score a touchdown against Georgia.
  17. does this mean i am gold now? what is the minimum for platinum? thanx

  21. but dammit he owes me five bucks.............
  22. mikey what is your purpose here? are you trying to belittle harsin when he faced covid and had no sec ties? he took his time getting the right people on his staff which i like. it was not rushed. other than the name brand of AU i have to wonder why you made this thread. are you fighting back by tweaking folks? are you two hundred percent in harsons corner? gus did some great things for auburn but there were times you or i could coach the team better than he did. gus hurt auburn in a lot of ways and i believe this is why many want to move on. now that we know more about the goings on at auburn i believe it is safe to say some of the assistant coaches who we all thought were backstabbing gus it appears now with all the silly things he did including ditching game plans and basically ignoring advice from his staff. like refusing to go one on one to get a true look of what you have instead of waiting until game day. then screwing people like gatewood after he promised joey he would play when his folks drove all that way to watch him play. and can we agree he had some studs on the team but could not get them coached up or straightened up. or what about trying to go lean and fast on the oline when the hunh had been tanked for three years? that hurt us. so serious what is the intention of this thread? can you keep gus'n things and still claim to be loyal to harsin? i waded in some deep doodooo for you yesterday and after sleeping on it i thought i would just ask where do you stand right now with auburn and the new staff?
  23. my bad i was refering to the recruiting on zoom during covid
  24. you fogot yankees talk fast and are hard to understand............lol
