  2. House unanimous on measure condemning antisemitism, apart from one GOP no vote Mychael Schnell Wed, May 18, 2022, 10:57 PM The House passed a resolution on Wednesday condemning the rise of antisemitism in a nearly unanimous vote, with one Republican lawmaker objecting to the measure. The resolution passed 420-1, with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) representing the only vote against it. Eight other Republicans did not vote. The Hill reached out to Massie for comment on his vote. The resolution calls on elected officials, faith leaders and leaders in civil society to use their positions of authority “to condemn and combat any and all manifestations of antisemitism.” The measure also urges individuals to denounce denials or distortions of the Holocaust, and encourages them to promote education focused on the Holocaust and antisemitism. “Tragically, antisemitism followed Jewish Americans from the old world to the new one, and its become a growing cancer on our body politic,” Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said from the House floor on Wednesday. “Too many Americans need to hear the loud voices of their Congress calling out antisemitism. Because too many of our fellow citizens are hearing leaders they support and trust either give voice to antisemitism or rationalize antisemitism,” he added. The resolution comes after the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported last month that antisemitic incidents in the U.S. hit a record high in 2021. In its annual audit, the group said it counted 2,717 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. last year, including harassment and vandalism. That number marked the highest the organization has recorded since it started tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979. The resolution cited the ADL’s report. The measure comes during Jewish American Heritage Month. It was also passed days after a gunman opened fire at a grocery store in Buffalo, N.Y., killing 10 individuals. Thirteen people were shot, 11 of whom were Black. The suspected shooter — 18-year-old Payton Gendron of Conklin, N.Y. — allegedly espoused the “great replacement” theory, which is a baseless, racist theory that an increasing number of minorities and immigrants are intentionally overrunning white Americans. According to the ADL, the theory is now associated with antisemitism because many white supremacists in the U.S. say Jews are responsible for non-white immigration to America. Hoyer mentioned the Buffalo shooting in remarks on the House floor when discussing the bill. “It is not enough simply to be against antisemitism. We must not rationalize or temporize with antisemitism,” Hoyer said. The resolution also calls for “amplifying and ensuring” that the U.S. takes a lead in fighting global antisemitism, specifically urging cooperation with the U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, along with international governments and parliaments. Holocaust historian Deborah Lipstadt was confirmed as special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism in March. Additionally, the resolution calls on social media platforms to step up efforts to address antisemitism while still safeguarding free speech concerns, and encourages taking “all possible steps” to bolster the security of Jewish institutions and groups in the U.S, among other provisions.

  4. Here are the 9 Republicans who voted against a bill to help poor families buy baby formula amid the ongoing shortage Cheryl Teh Thu, May 19, 2022, 1:51 AM Similac baby formula is displayed on the shelves at Shaker's IGA in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.Mark Duncan/AP Photo Nine Republicans voted against a bill that would help poor families buy baby formula. The bill is a measure that expands on a federal program to help low-income women and children. Separately, 192 Republicans voted no on a bill to staff up the FDA to help manage formula supply. Nine Republicans voted against a bill in Congress that would help lower-income women secure baby formula for their children. Many Republicans crossed party lines to vote for HR 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act, which passed the House on Wednesday with 414 "yes" votes. However, the bill — which comes amid a crisis where parents are struggling to procure baby formula for their children — was voted down by nine Republican lawmakers. The "no" votes were cast by GOP Reps. Andy Biggs, Lauren Boebert, Thomas Massie, Clay Higgins, Matt Gaetz, Chip Roy, Paul Gosar, Louie Gohmert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. The bill now goes to a vote in the Senate. Rep. Jahana Hayes introduced HR 7791 by saying it would help families using benefits under the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program access more baby formula. This supplemental nutrition program for poorer women does limit the kinds of baby formula brands that WIC recipients can purchase, though the bill aims to resolve these limits. The bill also requires that formula manufacturers put in place contingencies to prevent supply disruptions. "I have heard directly from constituents who are searching for formula to no avail, and we are actively seeing the consequences of an essential service throttled by a monopoly industry during a time of unprecedented supply chain challenges," Hayes said in a press release. Rep. Rosa DeLauro introduced a second bill that was voted on in the same session, meant to address the ongoing baby formula crisis in the form of increased funding for the Food and Drug Administration. HR 7790 proposed a $28 million cash infusion to help the FDA address the current formula shortage and prevent future supply chain issues. DeLauro told NBC before the vote that most of the cash in her legislation would go to staffing up the FDA and bolstering its inspection force. According to The Hill, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise urged Republican members to vote no on HR 7790, arguing that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was pushing the bill forward "in hopes of covering up the administration's ineptitude by throwing additional money at the FDA with no plan to actually fix the problem, all while failing to hold the FDA accountable." The House vote on both bills came several hours after President Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act, using the 1950 law to boost the supply of formula from US manufacturers. The US is still facing staggering issues with baby formula supplies, with the backlog having been induced by pandemic supply chain snags and a recent recall of Abbott products. Brands including Target, Walgreens, and CVS have begun rationing purchase quantities, and nationwide shortages continue to plague parents. Read the original article on Business Insider
  5. and here you are banging on bed wetters who it has already been proven most have experienced trauma in their lives. but of course you attack with slurs shows how you really feel. the fact you drag innocents down with them sucks. you want to look cute for your buddies by calling those you disagree with bed wetters not giving one single damn about those with problems and other stupid things you do tell a lot about your mindset.
  6. hell i see racism every single day. it is on tv,papers, and the internet. it does happen and it is real and for you to say it does not exist makes you look like a moron. hell even statistics on simple things like traffic stops had plenty of proof. you need to quit watching these idiot shows and look out into the real world.
  7. dude you are so full of it. trump banned muslims she because he does not care for any of them and yet you want us to live by the policies someone lie him makes?you are cray cray.
  8. i am all for it but i do not want to get in bidding wars where one uni has way more money than us or even someone else and they get all the good players because they have all the money. bama and ga i am pretty sure have been doing it under the table and look where they are already.when bear was coach at tejasA&M he had a pilot fly over a kids farm where he had a poster type tube sunk into a bail of hay and kicked it out over this kids farm. bear admitted it as i read his book. i think that was in the fifties? and the kid played for bear and i believe the kid was john david crow. and yes i know they pretty much all cheat to some extent. my hope is they make it fair and in a way where most if not all of cheating goes away. i would rather pull for a kid at auburn who is ther because he loves auburn and not because he took money. i know it is probably wishful thinking but i have not given up hope.
  9. jj loves to show people he is smart but what kills me is all dems are wrong regardless of topic because i have yet to see him side with anything non republican other than the recounts and they were mostly done by repubs. the whole dang party other than a couple of repuke crackers.....cracker for dummies..... found nothing wrong with the last election. in fact the voting machine company actually sued to make them put up or shut up and again the only thing they could back it up with was republican lies. i cannot remember what they settled for but i hope the voting machine companies got richer. i am so sick of republican lies and distortions and people that turn a blind eye to support a crooked party. i have little for the dems lately but the repukes suck. there is no other way to say it.
  10. U.S. Donald Trump Used N-Word on 'Apprentice' Set, Didn't Think Americans Would 'Buy' Black Contestant Winning: Co-Producer By Alexandra Hutzler On 6/25/19 at 4:31 PM EDT Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedInShare on RedditShare on Flipboard Share via Email Comments U.S. Donald Trump Racism During the first season of The Apprentice, Donald Trump was skeptical about whether viewers would "buy" that a black contestant could win the reality show and be awarded a job within his organization, according to a former producer on the show. The 2004 show had come down to two finalists: Kwame Jackson and Bill Rancic. Jackson, an African-American investment manager at Goldman Sachs who had graduated from Harvard Business School. Rancic, a Croatian-American entrepreneur, owned a cigar business in Chicago. According to the show's co-producer Bill Pruitt, when the time came to pick a winner Trump gathered with other judges and producers in a huddle. Carolyn Kepcher, a judge and the chief operating officer of several Trump golf clubs, advocated for Jackson's victory. Newsweek Newsletter sign-up > "But will America buy a n***er winning?" Trump said, according to Pruitt. Pruitt said he was not sure exactly what happened next, but that the huddle ended and Rancic was eventually named the winner of season 1. The account of Trump's use of the racial epithet is included in the book The Method to the Madness: Donald Trump's Ascent as Told by Those Who Were Hired, Fired, Inspired—and Inaugurated by reporters Allen Salkin and Aaron Short. The book is set to be released on July 9. Kepcher told Salkin and Short that she did not "remember such an incident" and that if Trump had used the N-word "I would remember, and I'd be disgusted." Jackson told the authors that had he won, he would have had a "problem" with Trump's birtherism attacks against Barack Obama. Plus, he said Trump would have always had "the trump card to say, I picked the black guy as my first winner." According to one of the show's co-producers, Trump thought that Americans wouldn't "buy" Kwame Jackson, an African-American investment manager, could win season 1. Amanda Edwards/Getty There have been several reports that Trump has used the N-word, both before and after being elected president. Former White House adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman, who was once the most prominent African American woman in the Trump administration and a former Apprentice contestant, wrote in her memoir that Trump is a racist who has used the racial epithet on many occasions. She also said she had the tapes to prove it (which were allegedly recorded on the set of The Apprentice) but the existence of the tape is still in question. Omarosa apparently was told that Trump had used the term from an unnamed person, who had originally heard it from Frank Luntz. Luntz, a conservative consultant, denied her account and said that the allegation is completely false. He also said that he has "never heard such a thing" come from the president. After her memoir was released, Trump called his former aide a "crazed, crying lowlife." He also called her "that dog" in a tweet, which sparked criticism for its racial undertones. Trump has also come under fire for attacking prominent black celebrity figures, including LeBron James and protesting NFL players. Trump was also accused of using racially derogatory language in the Oval Office when he reportedly referred to nations like Haiti and Nigeria as "****hole countries" in a closed-door meeting with lawmakers.
  11. not me he said they were good people. had several racists on his staff.you are lying. i get what you are saying so why did the proud boys think it was stated for them? this and telling them to stand back and stand by. so um why would trump say this if he did not mean it? i probably should have spelled this out and thought i already told you this once but i cannot remember. so the proud boys are a racist group right? YOU can split hairs all you want. trump is a liar and i know that has to be tough with you kissing his buttocks all the time.

  14. Auburn DC Jeff Schmedding updates on Owen Pappoe and Zion Puckett By Nubyjas Wilborn | nwilborn@al.com 2-3 minutes Auburn defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding expressed confidence that linebacker Owen Pappoe and defensive back Zion Puckett will be ready to participate when the Tigers reconvene on the Plains in two weeks for workouts. Pappoe and Puckett will start prep unencumbered for the season-opener against Mercer on September 3rd at Jordan-Hare. Schmedding and a member of Auburn’s 2010 national championship team/secondary coach Zac Etheridge addressed a crowd of over 200 people during a dinner for the Middle Georgia Auburn alumni chapter. The first-year Auburn defensive coordinator said that Pappoe and Puckett would participate fully in football activities starting on May 30th at the team’s facility in Auburn. “They’re coming along well,” Schmedding told AL.Com after the event. “We’re excited. They’re gonna be full go when we have our team meetings to get ready for the summer phase of our program. We’re excited that neither of them has to miss anything else.” Puckett played in 10 games last season at safety and made nine starts. He finished the 2021 season with 48 tackles, including a career-high 10 in the loss against eventual national champion Georgia at Jordan-Hare. Puckett missed the Birmingham Bowl with a shoulder injury. He participated in 7-on-7 and position drills in spring camp that ended with the A-Day game. Puckett didn’t do contact drills during the 15 practices that made up spring football. Pappoe struggled with an injury he suffered against Penn State last season. He had 23 tackles in 5 games during the 6-7 2021 season. He also didn’t participate in contact drills during spring football. Auburn has to replace leading tackler Zakoby McClain and team captain Chandler Wooten on the linebacking core and Smoke Monday at safety. Getting a healthy Puckett and a healthy Pappoe is essential for a squad to compete in the Southeastern Conference. Nubyjas Wilborn covers Auburn for Alabama Media Group.

  16. Matt Hayes 13-16 minutes 1. I don’t want to get on a soapbox, but … It’s pure nonsense, all of it. From the NCAA and coaches, to politicians and pundits. For years we’ve heard how college – more specifically, the amateur model – teaches young people to embrace adversity and overcome it. But suddenly, in the age of NIL and player movement, the shoe is full of pebbles on the other foot. The universities are now dealing with adversity. And they’re losing their collective minds. “You open the hen house, then complain the foxes are feeding?” one SEC coach told me. “What exactly did everyone expect?” We’re deep into the most transformational time in college sports, an era of change moving so quickly and freely, it has handcuffed those comfortable with the typically glacial movement of the past. The panic and desperation is real. And – I know this will shock you – it all revolves around money. For more than a century, universities had complete control of an unimaginably unfair system that in no certain order: — Generated billions and billions of dollars, turning collegiate conferences into private Fortune 500 companies under the umbrella (and government financial protection) of higher education. — Traded higher education for those billions, allowing students who excel at sports access to the university ahead of those who didn’t — and used that access as the flagpole of an argument they called “the amateur model.” — Proclaimed education and professional sport-specific development was a fair tradeoff for the billions and billions of dollars generated. — Restricted movement of student-athletes from one university to another by forcing a season of ineligibility for those who tried to move, while university presidents, athletic directors and coaches – those with the most power in the process – moved at will from one university to another. This scam didn’t care about race or gender; it was an equal opportunity offender. Don’t get caught up in hot-button narratives or inflammatory verbiage used to enrage those ignorant with the process. This is all about money. The battle for it, and the desire to keep it. The NCAA thought it had a get out of jail free card with NIL. Give players the ability to earn off their NIL, and it could slow the demand for a share of a much bigger pie: billions in media rights revenue. Then they added one free transfer, with immediate eligibility, to the equation. (Non-revenue sports already allowed one free transfer, by the way.) The final move – taking the wrench and opening the fire hydrant on full blast — was doing business with “collectives” to help facilitate NIL deals. Now all hell has broken loose: The collectives (see: boosters) have decided they’d rather give directly to student-athletes, not the university and athletic department. Money that once flowed freely through universities and athletic departments now goes directly into the bank accounts of student-athletes. The same student-athletes who are now using that money as leverage in a seedy transfer process that has made an unmitigated mess of roster management. So what’s the NCAA answer, you ask? Congress. The irony is just so rich. As comical as it sounds, a few college administrators – including SEC commissioner Greg Sankey – last week traveled to Washington, D.C., to ask for help from Congress, the most dysfunctional group on the planet. The NCAA, which for the past 2 years has made a complete mess of trying to do right by student-athletes, is asking for help from a body politic that has forever made a complete mess of trying to do right by humanity. The answer, everyone, lies within the amateur model. Embrace adversity and overcome it.
  17. Can Auburn use turnover margin to its advantage in 2022? Lance Dawe 2-3 minutes Auburn's ability to create turnovers may be important this upcoming season. The Tigers have had relatively stout defenses over the past several seasons. However, they've not relied on turnovers to consistently get the job done. It's been sound, fundamental schematics and great personnel groupings that has gotten Auburn to where they are today. They could still stand to gain some turnovers this upcoming season, especially if they want to meet or exceed expectations. Take a look at our stat of the day. Stat of the day Auburn had an even turnover margin (0) in 2021, which was tied for 65th nationally. They had eight fumbles and four interceptions lost, while gaining nine interceptions and three fumbles. The Tigers have have progressively had a worse turnover margin in each of the last four seasons (+9 in 2018, +6 in 2019, +4 in 2020, and 0 in 2021). What it means Auburn's defensive line may be the key to success in 2022. If the Tigers can consistently get more pressure than they did last season (Auburn was 7th in the SEC in pressure rate), then it will put opposing quarterbacks in more dangerous situations, therefore creating the opportunity for more turnovers. Given Auburn's difficult schedule, they'll need some things to bounce their way. Getting an interception or a fumble here and there would be huge. May it also be noted that while Auburn did a phenomenal job at not turning the ball over in 2021 (12 total lost turnovers was 2nd in the SEC), they were horrible at forcing them (12 total turnovers created was tied for last in the SEC and 113th nationally). Auburn's defensive scheme has to put the secondary in better situations this upcoming season. Engage with Auburn Daily on Socials!

  24. Johnny Cash mural is leaking from a crude spot after Arkansas water tower gets shot Screengrab of video shared by the Cleveland County Herald. Mitchell Willetts Sun, May 15, 2022, 4:11 PM An Arkansas town is upset after someone shot a hole in their water tower in a very specific, and unfortunate location. The water tower in Kingsland, the birthplace of Johnny Cash, bears a painted silhouette of the famous Man in Black — but an unknown person recently took careful aim at Cash’s crotch and pulled the trigger. Now the mural is perpetually leaking from that spot, video shared May 11 by the Cleveland County Herald shows. Kingsland, population around 400, is 72 miles south of Little Rock. Betty Graham, water office manager, told the Herald it could take as long as a week to fix the damage. She saw the leak when she went into the office early that morning but assumed it was “routine overflow,” until sunrise, when the cold light of day revealed the work of the crude vandal, the Herald reported. Kingsland spent almost $300,000 last year improving the water tower. “Someone here knows who did this,” a comment read. “I hope they’ll come forward and turn the vandal in.” “This is just terrible. If they find out who it was they need to give them the max punishment. This is people’s livelihood, their water source,” said another. While not condoning vandalism, some felt that the perpetrator displayed a certain degree of panache. “Shouldn’t have done it, but as far as creativity goes its 1st class,” a comment said. Seeing harm come to the freshly refurbished water tower isn’t anything to laugh about, Graham said in a Facebook post. “People think it’s funny but a lot of hard work and effort went into getting the grant to get this painted,” Graham said. “It’s sad that someone could do this. Please if anyone heard the shot and knows the time or was out last night and saw something suspicious please let me or someone with the water Dept or the sheriff Dept know.” Triassic park theft: Someone cut fossil footprints from stone at Utah national park Teens poisoned fish during $380,000 vandalism spree to new Colorado homes, cops say Man scared locals, campers for 15 years with ‘acts of terror,’ Louisiana sheriff says Sprawling graffiti plagues Zion National Park as visitation booms, video shows i bet a darn repub did it.........................
