  1. Auburn briefing: Tigers going to work on recruiting trail Lance Dawe 3–4 minutes Hugh Freeze and the Tigers are putting in the effort on the trail right now. Auburn added a lot via the transfer portal leading many to believe this football team can win seven-plus games this season. The FPI numbers give Auburn a 58.3% chance to win six games. FPI projects the Tiger's record to be in the range of 5.8-6.2, so there isn't a belief this team could be the sleeping giant. The portal will give the Tigers an opportunity to win this season, but it will be the recruiting trail that benefits Hugh Freeze and Auburn the most in future seasons. Auburn is currently hitting the trail hard, pursuing a variety of high-end 2024 prospects. We wrote it Auburn is now looking to add a three-star Mobile native Bryce Cain. The Baker High School standout has shown his skills at many camps across the country and has gained momentum across recruiting sites and team boards for these dynamic showings. Cain also put up respectable numbers in his Junior season racking up almost 500 yards and five touchdowns. Read more about Bryce Cain here. Jalyn Crawford, one of the highest priorities on Auburn's defensive back recruiting board, came to the plains over the weekend for his official visit. The Atlanta native has visited Auburn three times since being offered by the staff on December 20th of last year. The Parkview High School star has built a healthy relationship with DB coaches Wesley McGriff and Zac Etheridge. The reason for being in contact with both is that Auburn sees him as a player that could play both cornerback and safety. Read more about Jayln here. The Tigers have appeared as the frontrunner for four-star linebacker D'Angelo Barber. Read more about his recruitment here. Tweet of the day Bruce Pearl got some love for what he's accomplished at Auburn compared to the Tigers' previous seasons. The Tigers kick off the 2023 season on September 2nd at home vs UMass at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN.
  2. auburnwire.usatoday.com Montgomery Advertiser sheds light on Auburn's five key position battles Taylor Jones ~4 minutes Hugh Freeze took over as Auburn football’s leading man in November and has worked around the clock to improve the Tigers’ program in every aspect. Freeze brought in 20 transfers from the transfer portal, with every addition having the potential to contribute immediately. Not only that but there are several members of Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class that can see early playing time as well. Buy Tigers Tickets With so many new faces that will grace the gridiron this season in orange and blue, Richard Silva of The Montgomery Advertiser shared his take on Auburn’s top five position battles heading into the summer portion of the preseason. From transfer-heavy units to experienced homegrown talent, here’s a look at Auburn’s top five position battles ahead of the 2023 season. For Silva’s complete breakdown of each position, click here. AP Photo/Stew Milne This group will have a balanced mix of returning players and transfers vying for adequate playing time. Transfers such as Austin Keys and Larry Nixon III could make an immediate impact, but we can not count out returners such as Wesley Steiner, Cam Riley, and Robert Woodyard to be productive as well. Photo by Austin Perryman This unit can make or break Auburn’s entire offense. Hugh Freeze has revamped the offensive line, as transfers such as Avery Jones, Gunner Britton, Dillon Wade, and Jaden Muskrat bring plenty of experience to the roster. It is important for the offensive line to improve its protection skills from last season. In 2022, Robby Ashford was pressured a total of 127 times (25 sacks), while Payton Thorne was pressured 125 times (19 sacks) at Michigan State. The quarterbacks desperately need a break from the constant pressure, and Auburn’s transfer haul at the position should give the quarterbacks some relief. John Reed-USA TODAY Sports Auburn has two quarterbacks that will thrive in this offense when given the opportunity to be successful. As previously mentioned, Ashford was pressured 127 times last season, but still managed to pass for 1,613 yards and rushed for 849 additional yards. Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne also joins the mix for the starting spot, and will eventually be named the starter due to his experience. Expect Ashford to still play a role in the offense in some way, however. Jake Crandall/The Montgomery Advertiser No matter how Auburn splits carries, they will be in good shape in this regard. Jarquez Hunter is expected to become the premier back after two seasons as Tank Bigsby’s apprentice. Damari Alston is poised to have an excellent sophomore season, and USF transfer Brian Battie brings versatility to the unit. As long as the offensive line shows an improvement from last season, expected the Tigers to become one of the SEC’s top rushing attacks. Michael Chang/Getty Images Players such as Zion Puckett, D.J. James, Keionte Scott, and Nehemiah Pritchett bring experience to the Auburn secondary, while true freshman Kayin Lee looks to gain experience this season. This group will feature the most experience on the defensive side of the ball, with the vast majority of players being homegrown talent. 5. yahoo.com Trump vows to appoint special prosecutor to ‘go after’ Biden if former president wins in 2024 Brett Samuels 3–4 minutes Former President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to appoint a special prosecutor to specifically target President Biden and his family if he’s reelected to the White House. Trump’s post on Truth Social represents a brazen pledge to use the levers of government to target political rivals. It comes in the wake of his own indictment by a Justice Department special counsel stemming from his handling of classified materials after leaving office. “Now that the ‘seal’ is broken, in addition to closing the border & removing all of the ‘criminal’ elements that hve illegally invaded our country, making America energy independent & even dominant again, & immediately ending the war between Russia & Ukraine, I will appoint a real special ‘prosecutor’ to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the USA, Joe Biden, the entire Biden crime family, & all others involved with the destruction of our elections, borders, & country itself!” Trump posted on Truth Social, writing in all capital letters. The former president lashing out at Biden comes days after the Justice Department unsealed a 37-count indictment that includes 31 counts under the Espionage Act after Trump refused to return classified materials he took with him upon leaving the White House in 2021. A breakdown of the documents Trump is accused of keeping alleges that they dealt with intelligence collected on foreign countries or American military capabilities. The filing also alleges Trump weighed methods to avoid returning the documents, asking his attorney to “hide or destroy” those in his possession following a June subpoena last year. It also says he tried to obstruct the FBI and grand jury investigations and conceal his continued possession of classified documents by suggesting his attorney falsely represent to the FBI that he did not have the documents in question. And the filing details two specific instances where Trump is alleged to have shared highly sensitive materials with individuals at his Bedminster, New Jersey, club who did not have security clearances. Trump and his allies have claimed the prosecution is politically motivated and accused the Justice Department under the Biden administration of targeting a political rival, with Trump leading in most 2024 GOP primary polls. But Biden has repeatedly declined to weigh in on the investigation into his predecessor, and a special counsel was appointed in Trump’s case to maintain independence. Trump, meanwhile, has for years pushed to investigate or target his political rivals. He led chants of “lock her up” directed at Hillary Clinton throughout his 2016 campaign and time in the White House. Trump’s one-time chief of staff, John Kelly, alleged that Trump pushed for the IRS to investigate FBI officials like former Director James Comey and his deputy, Andrew McCabe. Trump in 2020 called on his then-Attorney General Bill Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate the Biden family amid allegations of corruption that have not been proven. 19. news.yahoo.com Trump Supporters’ Violent Rhetoric in His Defense Disturbs Experts Michael S. Schmidt, Alan Feuer, Maggie Haberman and Adam Goldman 8–10 minutes Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) at the Capitol in Washington on Nov. 17, 2022. (Al Drago/The New York Times) The federal indictment of former President Donald Trump has unleashed a wave of calls by his supporters for violence and an uprising to defend him, disturbing observers and raising concerns of a dangerous atmosphere before his court appearance in Miami on Tuesday. In social media posts and public remarks, close allies of Trump — including a member of Congress — have portrayed the indictment as an act of war, called for retribution and highlighted the fact that much of his base carries weapons. The allies have painted Trump as a victim of a weaponized Justice Department controlled by President Joe Biden, his potential opponent in the 2024 election. The calls to action and threats have been amplified on right-wing media sites and have been met by supportive responses from social media users and cheers from crowds, who have become conditioned over several years by Trump and his allies to see any efforts to hold him accountable as assaults against him. Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times Experts on political violence warn that attacks against people or institutions become more likely when elected officials or prominent media figures are able to issue threats or calls for violence with impunity. The pro-Trump mob that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was drawn to Washington in part by a post on Twitter from Trump weeks earlier, promising that it would be “wild.” The former president alerted the public to the indictment Thursday evening in posts on his social media platform, attacking the Justice Department and calling the case “THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME.” “Eye for an eye,” wrote Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., in a post on Twitter on Friday. His warning came shortly before the special counsel in the case, Jack Smith, spoke to the public for the first time since he took over the investigation of Trump’s retention of classified documents. On Instagram, Trump’s eldest son’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, posted a photo of the former president with the words, “Retribution Is Coming,” in all capital letters. In Georgia, at the Republican state convention, Kari Lake, who refused to concede the Arizona election for governor in 2022 and who is an ardent defender of Trump, emphasized that many of Trump’s supporters owned guns. “I have a message tonight for Merrick Garland and Jack Smith and Joe Biden — and the guys back there in the fake news media, you should listen up as well, this one is for you,” Lake said. “If you want to get to President Trump, you are going to have go through me, and you are going to have to go through 75 million Americans just like me. And I’m going to tell you, most of us are card-carrying members of the NRA.” The crowd cheered. Lake added: “That’s not a threat, that’s a public service announcement.” Political violence experts say that even if aggressive language by high-profile individuals does not directly end in physical harm, it creates a dangerous atmosphere in which the idea of violence becomes more accepted, especially if such rhetoric is left unchecked. “So far, the politicians who have used this rhetoric to inspire people to violence have not been held accountable,” said Mary McCord, a former senior Justice Department official who has studied the ties between extremist rhetoric and violence. “Until that happens, there’s little deterrent to using this type of language.” The language used by some right-wing media figures was more stark. On Pete Santilli’s talk show, the conservative provocateur declared that if he were the commandant of the Marine Corps, he would order “every single Marine” to grab Biden, “throw him in freakin’ zip ties in the back of a freakin’ pickup truck,” and “get him out of the White House.” One of his guests, Lance Migliaccio, said that if it were legal and he had access, he would “probably walk in and shoot” Gen. Mark A. Milley, chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and someone Trump has identified as one of his enemies. So far, the reactions from Trump’s supporters have been more intense and explicit than those expressed after Trump was indicted in a separate case by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in late March. Shortly before that indictment, Trump posted an article on Truth Social, his social media platform, that included a photo of himself holding a baseball bat on one side, and Bragg in an adjacent photo. Dueling crowds of pro-Trump and anti-Trump protesters appeared in lower Manhattan when Trump was arraigned there in April. On Saturday, in his first public remarks since the latest indictment on seven charges related to the retention of classified documents and efforts to obstruct justice, Trump attacked those investigating him as engaged in “demented persecution.” The FBI has been the target of much criticism from far-right Republican lawmakers and the former president’s supporters. In the wake of the heated partisanship, FBI field offices are reporting all threats related to their personnel or facilities to the Washington headquarters, in an unusual step. A law enforcement familiar with the move said the FBI was trying to get a handle on the number of threats around the country directed at the agency. Despite whatever security precautions are taken for Trump’s appearance Tuesday, security experts said that the rhetoric and the threats from it were unlikely to subside and would likely become more pronounced as the case moves forward and the 2024 election nears. “Rhetoric like this has consequences,” said Timothy J. Heaphy, the lead investigator for the select House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and Trump’s efforts to remain in the White House after his presidency. “People who we interviewed for the Jan. 6 investigation said they came to the Capitol because politicians and the president told them to be there. Politicians think that when they say things it’s just rhetoric, but people listen to it and take it seriously. In this climate politicians need to realize this and be more responsible.” On Instagram on Saturday morning, Trump posted a mashup video of himself swinging a golf club on the course and an animation of a golf ball hitting Biden in the head, superimposed with footage of Biden falling at a public event in recent days after he tripped over something onstage. It was hardly the first time that figures on the right have issued calls for war or violence to support the former president, or the first time that Trump has appeared to summon his supporters to amass on his behalf. In the days leading up to the attack on the Capitol, the notion that a civil war was drawing near was prevalent in right-wing circles. Extremist leaders like Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers militia, and Enrique Tarrio, chair of the Proud Boys, often rallied their groups with incendiary references to the cleansing violence of the American Revolution. Both men have been convicted of sedition in connection with the Capitol attack. More broadly, on far-right websites, people shared tactics and techniques for attacking the building and discussed building gallows and trapping lawmakers in tunnels there. The recent bout of warlike language coming in response to Trump’s indictment echoed what took place among Republican officials and media figures last summer after the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private club and residence in Florida, as part of the documents investigation and hauled away about 100 classified records. “This. Means. War,” The Gateway Pundit, a pro-Trump outlet, wrote at the time, setting the tone for others. Hours later, Joe Kent, a Trump-endorsed House candidate in Washington state, went on a podcast run by Stephen Bannon, Trump’s onetime political adviser, and declared, “This just shows everyone what many of us have been saying for a very long time. We’re at war.” Indeed, within days of the heated language that followed the search of Mar-a-Lago, an Ohio man armed with a semi-automatic rifle tried to breach the FBI field office near Cincinnati and wound up killed in a shootout with local police. c.2023 The New York Times Company
  20. imagine that. nancy appointing decet repubs instead of the fooking crazies yall have..............you are such an idiot mickey.

  22. Open in app or online these unhinged Republicans are going to get someone killed. is that the plan? what in actual **** is going on? Jeff Tiedrich Jun 12 Share what in actual **** is this? you could be forgiven for taking this as the dipshit ravings of a dipshit lunatic — because you would be half right: Clay Higgens, wingnut rep from Lousiana, is a dipshit lunatic. but let’s take a closer look at this tweet. we should be alarmed by it. Upgrade to paid it’s a coded message in militia-speak. “rPOTUS” refers to Donald Trump, the “real POTUS.” “buckle up,” as in ‘stand back and stand by.’ “1/50k” is the scale used in military maps. “know your bridges.” why? sabotage? holy s***! "This isn’t a metaphor. This isn’t slow civil war. This is a congressman calling for the real thing." “Prepare for war. ‘Know your bridges’ is militia speak for closing them down. County level insurrection.” it would be nice if we could dismiss Clay Higgins as a lone weirdo. but Republicans have spent the days leading up to tomorrow’s arraignment of Donald Trump calling for a violent response. but Clay has a lot of company. here’s freelance election denier and professional lunatic Kari Lake, speaking at an event in Georgia: “I have a message tonight for Merrick Garland, and Jack Smith, and Joe Biden. And the guys back there in the fake news media, you should listen up as well, this one’s for you. If you wanna get to President Trump, you’re gonna have to go through me, and you’re gonna have to go through 75 million Americans just like me. And most of us are card carrying members of the NRA. That’s not a threat, that’s a public service announcement.” that’s not a threat? holy s***, that’s exactly a threat. seems to me that if you or I said anything like that, the Secret Service would come knocking on our doors, post ******* haste. Andy Biggs: “We have now reached a war phase. Eye for an eye.” Kimberly Guilfoyle: “Retribution Is Coming.” and what the **** is this s***: folks, they’re out here trying to turn the arraignment into another January 6th. and they’re not even hding it. fortunately, law enforcement has taken notice: Authorities were monitoring plans for pro-Trump rallies in Miami, including one outside the federal courthouse on Tuesday purportedly organized by a local chapter of the Proud Boys, a far-right extremist group, some leaders of which were found guilty of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. be very afraid. it only takes one ******* idiot with a rifle and a misplaced sense of justice to cause a tragedy. above all, what it to be done about elected officials (and whatever the **** Kimberly Guilfoyle is) openly and brazenly calling for armed insurrection against their own government? I know that Joe Biden prefers to give the appearance of riding above all this, and there is no shortage of Democrats toeing the “when they go low, we go high” line, but someone needs to address this s***, pronto. everyone is entitled to my own opinion is a reader-supported publication. 23. to be serious there is no need for any discussion if no one is going to be honest. on both sides. i think the problem is some worry about the world and want to correct things. many act like it is a game and it is like they are pulling for their team. that is my take. i had to admit to mickey i was wrong on something i said and it killed my soul but i did it. as old as i am the future scares me. rome destroyed itself and we are doing the same damn thing right now. add greed and unless a miracle happens we are toast. this is as honest as i can get.
