  1. Oh, I can understand the rule: you don't want your star to be distracted from the season at hand, nor do you want him to be a distraction to the other players. It just seems like not playing the guy and losing to district foes would be a recipe for disaster in the community.
  2. Not playing a star big enough to be wanted by several colleges (especially Power 5 colleges) seems like a good way to lose your job as a coach...
  3. If we go 8-4 this season, I'LL be done with Gus, and I'm a huge fan of his. It was his hire as OC that got me on board with the Chizik hire to begin with...but consistent mediocrity is not something I'm willing to live with at Auburn. Quite honestly, I'm not sure I'd be okay with 9-3, even with a bowl victory pushing us to 10 wins, particularly if we lose to UGA and Bama again. This roster is too loaded with too much potential to settle for less than a top notch season.
  4. Pretty sure that was Byrum in his freshman year, but Spurrier wasn't Florida's coach at the time.
  5. I didn't realize that. Still, I'm glad we had him running the offense in 2013 and 2014.
  6. But if he had, would he have stood out enough to make the cut in the first place?
  7. You're right that he's the exception to the rule, but I don't know that he would have been better off sticking to defensive back. He obviously didn't think his prospects were very good at UGA, and I'm not sure he wouldn't have disappeared on the depth chart had he stayed there. As it is, he did enough at QB to prove to an NFL team that he was enough of an athlete to play in the League, even if it was a move back to DB.
  8. Sure glad Nick Marshall decided to play the position he wanted to and not the one college coaches said was best for him.
  9. I sincerely doubt he's really THAT fast, but if he's putting out numbers like that then he might be a legit 4.4-4.5. Of course, if he's like his uncle, I suppose low 4.3s might not be too much of a stretch...
  10. Has Vandy not offered yet? I would have expected to see them in his top 5 after his going on about academics being a priority.
  11. Tucker Frederickson, Auburn's FIRST #1 NFL draft pick.
  12. "Nix gonna float one for Sanders, Sanders...OH HE CAUGHT IT AT THE TWO, AND HE DIVED IN! TOUCHDOWN AUBURN! TOUCHDOWN AUBURN!! OH MY GOODNESS! Frank Sanders leaped up over Tommy Johnson or Antonio Langham, he caught the ball at the two, how he held it I don't know, but he dived into the end zone, and Auburn's right back at the stick of it, with a backup quarterback, trailing 14-11!" (Sorry, just had to get that out of my system.)
  13. I want him to do what is best for himself....and come to Auburn. lol
  14. Whatever the "official" position, I'd still love to have a big bodied possession receiver to match the big play wideouts we have on the team.
  15. I'm loving the amount of talent we have coming back at the offensive skill positions...gotta make Stidham pretty giddy in his own right, too!
  16. I'm thinking he'd look something like LaMichael James did on a couple of screens against us in the BCS National Championship Game back in 2011...just a little crease and he's got 10-15 yards in a snap.
  17. The only thing I can think of is to put all their effort into deflection, rather than trying to stop/slow down the pass rusher. That way, the QB at least has a chance to step up or to the side and keep his eyes down field...but I feel sure the coaches teach that anyway, if it is effective.
  18. If I had to guess, I'd say Stidham will wear #3 if he wants it, and they'll convince NCM to switch to a normal wide receiver number the same way Kyle Davis switched from #11 to #86 during the season.
  19. Here's hoping we actually utilize him properly, particularly in the red zone. I miss having a receiving threat at tight end.
  20. 2012 is rated #3? Wow, that's surprising...
  21. With the presence of Stidham added to the mix, I'm not sure we've had this much talent at the QB position since 1993, when Patrick Nix was Stan White's backup and Dameyune Craig was redshirting. If Sean, Stidham, and Barrett perform up to the level of those three guys, we'll be championship contenders for years to come!
  22. The thing that has always stood out to me about Sean is that he seems to play above the level he's expected to play at. Remember, he won the MVP of the Elite 11 camp (which included Deshaun Watson, Kyle Allen, and Brad Kaaya) in high school, so rising to the challenge is nothing new to him. I'm not saying he'll beat out Stidham, I'm just saying I don't expect him to go quietly into the good night.
  23. I just don't know. I think Sean would probably stay for another year and then go as a graduate transfer (I'm guessing he doesn't have the time to take enough classes that he could graduate in three years); and JF3 is already talking about being willing to help the team at another position, so I could see him sticking around simply as a way to show his speed and athleticism to NFL scouts on center stage, rather than going to a side show just to play QB.
  24. Woody Barrett figures to be part of that mix, too, I would think. He'll be a year behind Stidham (presuming he does keep his redshirt on this year), and two ahead of Gatewood (so long as Gatewood redshirts). Considering how well JS responded to Kendal Briles, I could definitely see him only staying for two years, leaving two for Barrett and two for Gatewood, but these kinds of things rarely work out right. If they did, Jeremy would be the starter right now, and Sean would be staring down a battle with Woody for the starting job next year...and Cam Newton would have been starter in 2011, giving Kiehl Frazier time to redshirt and acclimate...and so on. Thus, for right now, I'm happy we have a QB who is managing the game well, and I'm even happier that we have a couple on the horizon who could take the offense to the next level.
  25. I believe the term you're looking for is moxie, and I believe that's Sean's greatest strength. He's one of those players who seems to have a penchant for proving his doubters wrong, and I'd LOVE to see him do that on the field this year!
