  1. Have you ever coached? Honest question, because your opinion holds a lot more weight if you have.
  2. What Stat is saying IS true. But he's not saying Gus has to go. He's saying Gus and the rest of the staff have to hold players accountable. There's a difference.
  3. Someone get a copy of this to Gus and make sure he actually reads it. For that matter, distribute copies to all the coaches, because it pertains to them, too.
  4. I was very impressed with the patience Shivers showed on his runs, even the one or two when the blocking never developed and he was dropped for a loss. One of these days, he's going to hit a crease and be gone, with DBs taking poor angles on him due to his track speed. I still like Asa, and think he could be an important piece for us at some point, but Worm is living up to my billing him as the best running back in the 2018 recruiting class.
  5. Washington's OL has never seen anything that resembles Auburn's DL. I was tailgating at the Iron Bowl before the game, and there was a UGA fan at the tailgate. He said he didn't want to see our defensive line again, because it scared him. We've only gotten deeper and more experienced since then. On the flip side, we go up against defenses as talented or better than Washington's at least 2-3 times a year, and as young as the OL is, at least we do return 3 players who started a game last season. I think Coach is right that our OL's success hinges on Prince Tega living up to his size and athleticism. I don't want to pump too much sunshine, because there are so many unknowns right now, and U Dub will come out pumped up about playing against an SEC team as highly rated as us. But the closer the game gets, the better I feel about it.
  6. If they run too many double move routes, I think we'll have a bunch of pressure on the Heisman hopeful QB on the other side of the ball. Our boys are just too danged good on the defensive line, and there are so many of them that I rather doubt the Washington line will be able to hold on very well.
  7. Dameyune compares more favorably to Cam Newton than he does to Slack or Burger. He had one HUGE year at Auburn in which he carried the team on his shoulders to within a point of beating Peyton Manning's Tennessee team that was absolutely stacked with talent. Didn't Craig set a record for passing yards that season, too?
  8. I'm so glad we didn't lose him to the University of Auburn. Those guys seem to horn in on several key recruits every year...
  9. Well, I hate to be "that guy", but the 1993 team included Stan White, Patrick Nix, and Dameyune Craig...
  10. You know, a part of me screams out that we just signed a stud QB in Gatewood and already have an overachiever in Willis, so the talk of Bo coming in and starting as a true freshman just seems silly. However, with all the raving about his football IQ and arm accuracy, I can't help but to wonder. I still lean toward Joey or Malik starting in 2019, with Nix redshirting, but I do think it will be very interesting to see the competition at QB in 2020. Of course, what I'd really love to see is Gatewood come in and set the world on fire after Stidham moves on, then go pro after 2020 and have Bo waiting in the wings as the heir apparent, but it's exceedingly nice to have all this talent at the most pivotal position.
  11. I'd rather trust the judgement of guys whose lives are predicated upon them being right with their evaluations than a dot com ratings evaluation done by people whose lives are predicated upon stirring interest among subscribers.
  12. Did he not figure that out when OP committed?
  13. In any case, however, we've drifted from talking about our new TE commit, the UGA QB's little brother. Probably ought to save this chat for IF Jake decides to leave UGA and get back to celebrating Tyler's commitment.
  14. And you don't think him being the superior QB now has anything to do with the amount of experience and development he has compared to J Fromm? I get that he was rusty and learning a new system, but the learning curve isn't nearly as steep for a kid who has played major D-I ball and been working out at the college level for two years already when compared to a true freshman.
  15. That doesn't negate the physical/psychological maturity or the experience against D-I competition. Don't undersell Stidham for the sake of making a point in an argument.
  16. The big difference is that Wilson was a grad transfer, Fromm wouldn't be. If he decided to leave UGA for a JUCO (like if Fields leapfrogs him on the depth chart), then I'd be more than willing to reconsider when he's eligible to be recruited again, but he probably isn't going to transfer before the season, which would put him at Auburn no earlier than 2020, a time when Willis, Gatewood, or Nix would have already had a year on the field (more than likely, anyway, presuming Stidham follows predictions and goes pro after 2018).
  17. To be fair, though, our first year QB was a third year sophomore who had experience playing in the Power 5. Theirs was fresh out of high school...not exactly an apples to apples comparison.
  18. No, I wouldn't. I like the chemistry we've got going at QB right now, and between Willis, Gatewood, and Nix, J Fromm would be hard pressed to crack the lineup by the time he got to the Plains anyway.
  19. This makes sense to me, based upon the play calling and recruiting during Malzahn's tenure. I love Jalen Harris, but it seems obvious the coaches don't trust him catching the ball (much to his family's chagrin). Still, they've been going after TEs on the recruiting trail, and signed Shenker (sp?) last year, so maybe Chip and Gus have bigger plans for the position going forward? I sure hope so. Love Fromm's measurements, and one would have to presume he has some athletic ability given the fact that his brother has done so well at UGA. Would be great to have a big possession type guy for third downs and inside the 10.
  20. I didn't realize Troxell was still battling injury. Yeah, we're thin on the line, but we've still got talent. Oh, and the word I've heard on Kim is that he's not living up to what the coaches were hoping...something to do with limited reach. That's why I predicted Brahms to win C.
  21. Remember, recruiting is an inexact science, and football players don't always stay at the position they were recruited at. I played in high school against Ben Grubbs, who was a linebacker and tight end/fullback for Elmore County High School. He projected on defensive line at that point, but was drafted as a guard. Think he's still in the League, too. Would I have liked to sign a full O-line class this year? Yes, of course I would. But I'm not jumping off any bridges when I know we still have some talent hanging around for the immediate future. Tega got his feet wet, and Calvin Ashley got a year of conditioning to catch up. I expect them to be the starting tackles, and we have at least Sammons and Troxell to back them up, so it's not like we're running out of bodies just yet (knock on wood). We've got two guards with starting experience (though word has it one of them will sit behind Hamm), and we've got a couple of options at center...I'm guessing Nick Brahms will win that job, but that's pure speculation. We'll have to sign at least 5 in 2019, though.
  22. I think we have enough offensive linemen to get us through 2018, and I think we will load up on them in next year's class. And yes, I do think we've signed enough good athletes to keep up with UAT and UGA.
  23. I don't know, I just don't see him as being much of a boon for anything other than recruiting rankings. We have other needs.
  24. Simmons is grasping at straws, just hoping something he says stands up. JG has pretty well shown himself to be a superior quarterback to what previous projections suggested.
